My friend, Vegas.

There are two well known facts about my life. First, I am dating my absolute best friend. Seriously. He is marvelous. Second, I go to Las Vegas a LOT. I’m not sure how it happens; I just end up there at least once a quarter. Sometimes twice. I am a Vegas addict. Nothing brings me more joy than 100+ degree temperatures, penny slots, dance clubs, and massive margaritas. And of course… the pinnacle of the experience- more shopping than even I could handle. I love (almost) everything about Vegas, and always squirrel away enough money for a few new outfits while I’m there.
One of the best things about Vegas shopping is that a lot of the larger stores, like Saks and Nordstrom’s, get a ton of sale items shipped there from all other locations across the country. This means more selection for me. So imagine my reaction when Brett called me on my lunch break to tell me we were heading to the V at the end of June. One half of me was THRILLED: Bellagio pool, delicious meals, and sundresses! The other half? OH MYLANTA I CAN’T GO SHOPPING. What on earth would I do in the Fashion Show Mall without being able to shop? Sit in the food court with a Hot Dog on a Stick?? I could feel the end of my blog nearing, as it would be far too tragic to get on the plane home without any new clothes.

Then, the absolute LOVE of my life said… “Aren’t you excited?? You can pick out your birthday outfit from Saks!” HEAVEN. Needless to say, I packed my bags 2 weeks early and plopped down on our front porch waiting to go to the airport. We had a lovely trip, saving shopping for last. The big day came, and of course Brett wanted to make me wait even longer for my gift. We looked through the men’s section... and the men’s sale section... and the men’s shoe section... And finally: MY section. With the BIGGEST Saks sale I’ve ever seen. I tried on a million things before deciding on some really cute J Brand grey skinnies. I have never been one for grey denim, but considering it goes with pretty much anything it was a logical choice- particularly because I need those babies to last through three more seasons. Then, I got the most magnificent, gorgeous, AMAZING La Rok top (pictured at the bottom of the blog). There are no words. If I could wear it every day, I would… But I want it to last my entire life so I try to limit even looking at it. The floral print, the beading, the ruffles… I adore it. AND the best part? I didn’t break my blog. I didn’t shop. I didn’t spend money. I let an amazing someone buy me a birthday gift. For the rest of the day, I literally SKIPPED around LV with my shopping bag in hand. I can’t even describe the excitement to know that while I hadn’t technically “shopped”… I had something NEW and BEAUTIFUL. I was so thrilled it was almost pathetic, and I felt awkward… but then I went on living my life- with my NEW beautiful clothes.

THANKS Brett :-)

THE CHAIR.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I have been filling my shopping void with crafts. When I moved, I threw my old, hideous desk chair into the “yard sale” pile. I then tried using a huge recliner as my desk chair, but I could hardly see my computer screen and would end up with my laptop on my lap… in front of my desk. That’s efficient. SO I went on a quest for a beautiful new project: a chair
Luckily, my mother happened to have an old hunk o’ junk in her garage that she wasn’t using. It was all mine to do with what I want. I know my last posts have been a little wordy- so I’ll cut to the chase. I’ve posted the before pictures and the after pictures. I painted the wood frame and recovered the cushion. And the summary? I LOVE my new desk chair and I am SO PROUD of myself.

Space Cadet!

When my cat Teeny feels any sort of emotion, she cowers under the bed hiding. This is applicable for fear, hunger, excitement, and embarrassment. Hides right under the bed… trembling. She’s a weenie. Don’t tell my boyfriend I said that, but she is a weenie. I’ve adopted this practice...as I currently am under the bed- in this case for embarrassment. Just kidding! I’m not under the bed- there’s no way I could type if I was cramped like that. But I mean figuratively… I am humiliated. I said, word for word, that I’d have my blog updated TWICE by Sunday. And here it is, Tuesday… and no updates! What a mess. I’ve been so busy NOT shopping that I plum forgot. Kudos go to Annelise for calling my bluff… I don’t even know why I didn’t update because there is SO much I want to share. I guess I’ll hop right to it. Sunday, July 18 would have been a perfect day for a shopping spree… but my dear friend Rachel and I made our own Shop-free Sunday. We had a delicious lunch (with a pitcher of mojitos, who are we kidding). Afterwards, what better way to beat the heat than a mani pedi combo? In the past few months, I’ve really taken to keeping up with not just the Kardashians, but my nails as well. Changing the polish is a perfect way to feel up to date and cute, and it doesn’t count as shopping. I went with turquoise color on my fingers, and hot pink on my toes.
Isn’t my ring fantastic? It was a gift from my grandma right before her passing. My grandpa bought it for her in Italy. For months, I was too afraid to wear it- can you imagine if I somehow lost it? Tragic. But I broke through my fear and love staring at it throughout the day. It makes me think of my AMAZING and stylish grandma, who will eventually get a post all to her own (and her love of shoes). I am complimented on the ring ALL the time. It is a perfect lesson in old things still being cute. A cameo older than I, and more stylish than I as well… so hopefully it counterbalances the days that I wear Chuck Taylor’s with leggings… We ran a few crafty errands (literally, Craft Warehouse) and stopped by the store to get the fixings for a meal worthy of a third grader. We also Red-Boxed “Chloe.” I DO NOT RECOMMEND. It left us not only in pain from the huge dinner, but literally gave us a head ache wondering what we’d just sat through. While the plot was just ODD, Amanda Seyfried’s character had some amazing coats. I can only thank the movie gods for putting this to DVD during 100 degree temps, or I’d really be coveting those coats and life would be miserable.

See, a whole Sunday and I didn’t even miss the mall! In fact, I’d say this day was made better WITHOUT the need for new clothes.

A Promise.

I have three (count em, three) exciting posts heading your way. I unfortunately have been slammed and don't spend any time on my computer at my home lately.

Well, and I watched the "Pretty Little Liars" Marathon last night. Have you seen that show? IT'S AMAZING.

Regardless, I'd like to promise two things.

1. I still have NOT SHOPPED. It is an amazing feat (just being honest) considering I didn't think I'd make it through May.

2. I promise, PROMISE 2 of the 3 new posts will be done by next Sunday, July 25. Maybe even all three.

Until then...
